NORCROSS, Ga. — A well-known pastor, alarmed by the AIDS rate, took a HIV test in front of his Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church congregation Sunday.
Bishop William L. Sheals said he has made AIDS education a mission for almost 20 years.
Sunday, on National HIV Testing Day, he encouraged his congregation to get tested.
Church member Brian Coles heeded the call.
"Mine came out negative, which I knew it was. Thank God," said Coles.
State officials said Atlanta has the fifth highest number of AIDS cases in the country.
