PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — The Peachtree City Fire Marshal's Office is warning residents that golf carts can explode.
Investigators said the threat of a golf cart fire or explosion goes up this time of year.
Using an extension cord tends to spark most fires, while a buildup of hydrogen gas can cause the blasts, officials said.
"If you leave a door open, and you get some ventilation, you never build up to that concentration of 40,000 parts per million where you run the risk of a fire or explosion," said Assistant Fire Marshal John Dunlap.
Officials said the latest golf cart fire in Peachtree City was caused by a coiled extension cord.
