Norcross man wins $2.5M Georgia Lottery prize in Suwanee

ATLANTA — John Varnell Jr. of Norcross has won a $2.5 million Georgia Lottery prize playing the instant game 21 Black Series.

Varnell, 62, purchased his winning ticket from the Georgia Lottery’s Instant Ticket Vending Machine at QuikTrip #0769, 1075 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Suwanee.

He and his wife, Carol, intend to invest a portion of the winnings.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
