ATLANTA — A Milledgeville police official confirms to Channel 2 Action News reporter Mark Winne that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been accused of sexual assault by a woman in Milledgeville, Ga.
The suspected incident took place early Friday morning at Capital City, a club in Milledgeville.
In a news conference Friday evening, law officials said the incident took place at about 2:30 a.m. Friday. Roethlisberger was questioned by police but was later released, according to officials.
The Milledgeville Police Dept and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations are investigating the incident, officials told Winne.
The GBI and Milledgeville Police plan to interview members of Ben Roethlisberger's entourage of about 8 people and, if he will speak, Roethlisberger himself, according to Tom Davis, special agent in charge of the GBI regional office in the Milledgeville area.
Roethlisberger has not been charged.
Milledgeville Police Department said there will be no new information in the Roethlisberger case until Monday.
Ryan Tollner, Roethlisbergers agent, said the Steelers Quarterback is cooperating with the investigation.
"Last night, Ben and his friends met a group of women and everyone mingled together throughout the evening. We have spoken to law enforcement. Based on information currently available, an allegation was made against Ben, which appeared to be dismissed after a preliminary investigation last night. Obviously, given the prior accusation against Ben, we are skeptical of motive, but we will continue to cooperate with everyone involved," Tollner said in an statement Friday afternoon.
WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, Pa., said the Pittsburgh Steelers football team is saying it is aware of the Roethlisberger situation but, so far, has made no comment.
The alleged victim was treated and released at Oconee Regional Center Friday.
Authorities have been informed Roethlisberger has left Georgia, according to Davis.
Roethlisberger has a home on Lake Oconee.
Roethlisberger is currently being sued by Andrea McNulty, who claims the quarterback sexually assaulted her during a celebrity golf outing in Reno, Nev., in 2008.
