Newlyweds' Cars Set Afire; Arson Suspected

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — Nicole Knowles says her husband woke up in horror Wednesday morning.

"He woke up, woke me up and said get the baby and get out," said Knowles.

The newlywed couple's two vehicles had been set afire outside their Stockbridge home in Henry County.

"He's such a hard worker … he goes to school full time and works full time and this is his only source of transportation," said Knowles.

The couple said both vehicles were paid off, but carried liability insurance.

"We don't know what to do right now," said Knowles.

Knowles said Henry County fire investigators told her that they found some type of flammable liquid inside one of the vehicles, possibly gasoline.

"We're not bad people … it just doesn't make sense," said Knowles.

James Joyce lives next door and tried to help save the couple's vehicles, but it was simply too late.

"It was glowing pretty good … it was pretty well cooking. I heard the sound of gunshots, I assumed it was the tires blowing," said Joyce.

Knowles said she tried to get assistance through her homeowner's insurance, but was unsuccessful.

Joyce said he has lived in the neighborhood since 1984 and doesn't know who would do such a thing.

"We have a great neighborhood here. We never had any problems," he said.
