Deputy-involved shooting in Colorado.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO — A Colorado sheriff’s deputy was forced to open fire on a rifle-wielding man last week on the side of a highway, officials say.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy stopped to check on an SUV on the side of the road near Lilttleton.

When the deputy approached the driver, he came out of the SUV holding a rifle, which forced the deputy to shoot him, sheriff’s officials say.

Body cam video captured the entire incident.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Deyon Marcus Rivas-Maestas, was injured in the shooting and was treated at a hospital. He is now facing charges.

The deputy was not injured and was placed on routine administrative leave.
