NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway postponed until Tuesday

HAMPTON, Ga.,None — NASCAR has postponed its race at Atlanta Motor Speedway because of heavy rain from Tropical Storm Lee.

The AdvoCare 500 has been rescheduled for Tuesday. The green flag is set to drop at 11:00 a.m.

Any hopes of running the race Sunday night ended when another line of showers moved through the area about 9:30 p.m. -- two hours after the scheduled start, and just as crews were finishing up their effort to get the track dry for a late-night start.

NASCAR says there's no chance to get the race in Monday. The forecast calls for 4 to 5 inches of rain and possibly severe weather as remnants of Tropical Storm Lee move through the Atlanta area.

Existing tickets will be honored when the gates open at 8:30 a.m. The Atlanta Motor Speedway ticket office will open at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 5 for fans still wishing to purchase tickets for the rescheduled race. Fans can also purchase tickets at the gate the day of the event.

Due to impending weather, the Monday Breakfast on Bruton has been cancelled.
