BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — A Bartow County student ended up in the hospital with serious injuries after an unsecured soccer goal fell on him at his elementary school, according to his mother.

"We had to pick him up because he was unresponsive," Aidan's mother, Casey Jones said.

It happened in May at White Elementary in Bartow County.

"He was throwing up the first two or three days it happened, because he had a skull fracture, concussion, and short term memory loss," Jones said.

Jones said at the time, the principal promised her that any bills not covered by the family's insurance would be taken care of by the school district, but this week, she says they changed positions.

On Tuesday, Jones received a letter from the school district's insurance company denying coverage. The letter states: "The Georgia General Assembly amended State Constitution in 1991 to protect schools from having to pay for accidents and injuries and or property damage on or about school property unless an employee of the school deliberately did something that caused the injury or damage."

"I felt betrayed they told me it would be covered," Jones said. Jones says she is also concerned as to why the soccer goal wasn't anchored to the ground.

"I'm a bit confused as to why it wasn't anchored into the ground , I'm not sure their policy,  but I know in general most soccer goals are supposed to be anchored," Jones said.

Doctors say that Aidan suffered such hearing loss, he must now wear a hearing aid. His family's insurance doesn't cover hearing aids, which can cost thousands.

"It is going to be a lifelong battle, at the moment, our biggest concern, we are just trying to get Aidan a hearing aid," Jones said

"We are working with this family to provide support for this child and have requested supporting documents from a physician regarding his hearing loss to provide the appropriate support.  I had an extensive conversation with the principal yesterday regarding this child and was kept informed of this situation from the beginning," said Bartow County Schools Superintendent John Harper.
