Mississippi man heaps $50K prize in Georgetown

ATLANTA — One lucky man has won a crisp Georgia Lottery prize just in time for fall. Duane Roberts of Terry, Miss., is one of two lucky winners to each win a $50,000 jackpot prize from matching all five winning numbers from the Sept. 20 Fantasy 5 drawing.

Roberts stopped at R Bees, 790 U.S. Highway 82 in Georgetown, where he purchased a Quik Pik ticket.

The lucky winner is the owner of a construction company who was visiting the Albany area. He discovered his prize while checking the results online.

“When I saw that I’d won, I stayed over,” said Roberts, 51. “I feel great! It makes me want to stay in Georgia.”

Roberts claimed his prize Sept. 22 at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Tifton.

Winning numbers from the Sept. 20 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 9-13-19-26-28.

The second jackpot-winning ticket was purchased in Ellaville.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
