DECATUR — There were some unusual creations showcased in downtown Decatur at what has been called “The Greatest Show and Tell on Earth.”

The Atlanta Maker Faire is one of nearly a dozen Faires held across the country and around the world.  Children, college students and grown-ups enjoyed the handiwork of inventors, scientists and plain old garage tinkerers.

Kevin Howard of the Decatur Maker Space had his flame-throwing Ruben tube attached to music speakers.

"As the speaker pulses you're actually pumping propane out of the top of the tube, says Howard. "It recreates whatever sound you hear in flames."

According to Roy Craft, the Maker Faire development director,   the Faire caters to a diverse crowd.  "It's arts and crafts, meets popular science and popular mechanics at Dragon Con."

Students at Southern Polytechnic were eager to show off their award-winning  multi-rotor hexicraft.  And young inventors from Steampunk Robotics displayed their future city.

Roy Craft estimated that thousands attended the two-day Faire and he encouraged more people to participate.

"Come.  If you know how to do something, teach it.  If you don't know, someone else will teach you," Craft said.
