DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County is trying to crack down on a rat problem at one of its administrative offices.
The Maloof annex on Commerce Street is shut down until the rats are gone.
"It was about two weeks ago. It was reported that they found rat droppings at this location," said DeKalb spokesperson Burke Brennan.
That was enough to move about 100 employees to other county spaces for work and move in an assortment of sticky traps to catch the rats.
County officials believe the rats got in through cracks and holes near the base of the building, fleeing the demolition happening across the street. Eight rats were caught in a two-week period.
They said the problem is serious enough to suspend operations at the Maloof Building until rats and any evidence of them are gone.
