DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A driver is seriously injured after stopping her vehicle on railroad tracks and getting hit by a train.
The crash happened Sunday right before 3:30 p.m. on Covington Highway.
Police say a silver car was trying to make a right turn onto Covington Highway. There was a line of cars in front her and didn't make the turn in time.
The train was coming closer, so the arms dropped and the silver car got stuck between them.
The train attempted to stop, but couldn't, so it hit the silver car.
The silver car spun out of control and hit a black car that was stopped at the light, trying to make a left turn onto Covington Highway.
Police say you should never stop on the tracks, whether you see the train coming or not.
"The big lesson, especially at this intersection, trains are coming periodically through here all day. They just have to learn to stay off the railroad tracks," said Lt. C.D. Swain, with the DeKalb County Police Department.
The woman driving the silver car was seriously injured. Police haven't released her name or age.
Witnesses say when the arms came down she didn't attempt to exit her vehicle.
The driver of the black car was not hurt.
