Woman says she was beaten for standing too close in Dollar Tree checkout line

ALBANY, Ga. — A woman in Albany was beaten with brass knuckles at a Dollar Tree on Monday, police said.

Tara Baggs told WALB that a man beat her for standing too close to him in the checkout line.

Baggs said she running late and was a little out of breath while she was waiting in line.

“The individual said I was breathing down his neck, so I told him that he should proceed to go to the other line, but I proceeded to move over to the other register,” Baggs told WALB.

Baggs said when she left the store, the man was waiting for her and beat her with brass knuckles.

Baggs told WALB that lots of people watched it happen, but no one helped.

“Nobody came to my aid, and I was a customer,” Baggs told WALB.

Baggs was left with minor injuries including a bruised and swollen eye.

She described the suspect as a black man who is more than 6 feet tall, with glasses and a little bit of facial hair.

The Albany Police Department is calling the attack a case of battery. The man who attacked Baggs has not been caught.
