ATLANTA — A woman contacted Channel 2 Action News to complain about a maggot infestation in her apartment. The woman told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri her apartment complex's management said they can't do anything about it.

The woman first noticed the problem Saturday morning and put several of the maggots in a container. She said management initially told her they would send someone to treat the issue and that's what they told Viteri, but now the woman said they're telling her a different story.

The resident recorded cellphone video of the apartment at the Woods at Glenrose Complex in southwest Atlanta. It showed maggots crawling on the carpet.

"This is what the third day, yeah, after we seen this and they're still crawling around and stuff. There goes another one right there," the neighbor said.

The resident, who asked to be identified by only her last name, Johnson, said she discovered the maggots in her home Saturday morning.

"I looked down and I just started seeing these things crawling all over the place. At first I was like, 'What in the world are these moving?'"

When Viteri sat down to interview Johnson about the issue, even she noticed some crawling on the carpet. Johnson said she called management Saturday morning and was told someone would be out to treat the problem. She said someone took pictures but that was it.

When Viteri called the management office, someone said they weren't able to get pest control out on Saturday but someone would be coming Monday or Tuesday. Johnson said that's not what they told her when she followed up.

"They told me it's nothing they can do about it. It's not their problem," Johnson said.

Neighbor Joseph Glover and his mother suspect the maggots are feeding on something trapped beneath the floor.

"Something done died up underneath the floor and they're coming up through my rug and the office is like, they can't do anything about it," said Glover.

Johnson said at this time no one has come to deal with the issue. She said she'd like the entire carpet removed to see what's causing the problem.

Otherwise she said she will have to try to move out when her lease is up.
