Teenager hit by MARTA bus dies

ATLANTA — A woman hit by the MARTA bus earlier this week died Saturday. The Medical Examiner identified the victim as 19-year-old Brenda Travis of Atlanta.

The crash happened Wednesday night in southwest Atlanta near Lee Street and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard around 9 p.m. Investigators say the woman was wearing headphones and walked right in front of the bus.

Channel 2 Action News caught up with a witness who saw the pedestrian get hit.

“I was walking across the street to catch the bus going in the opposite direction,” Kenya Robinson said. “I had the green light because I was coming in the opposite direction she was and she ran out into the street and the bus was flying and the bus hit her. It hit her and she fell. It was crazy. The bus hit most of her head.”

Police say it appears the bus had a green light and the woman was jaywalking at the time of the crash.

Police are investigating the crash.
