DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County woman is facing felony murder charges for beating a 3-month-old child to death.
“I only had my baby for three months. It’s not fair,” said Catherine Johnson.
It was hard for Johnson to find words to describe what happened to her baby boy, Dylan Frazier.
She said she dropped him off with his godmother, Ramona Odom, Friday, Jan. 23. When she saw him the next day, something was terribly wrong.
“I looked at him. My baby was pale. He was weak and he was having a seizure,” said Johnson.
Johnson looked over her boy, who was returned tightly wrapped in a blanket.
“I noticed the knot on his head, and I called her and I asked her. I said, ‘Did you let my baby fall?’ and she said, ‘No. He didn’t fall,” said Johnson.
Johnson and the boy’s father, Damon Frazier, rushed him to the hospital.
“I get there, the doctor does a CT scan, and said my son has multiple fractures all over his skull and blood leaking to his brain,” said Johnson.
Dylan was placed on a ventilator. Meanwhile, Johnson and Damon demanded answers from Odom.
“Then she said he fell out of the bed and that’s been her story. That’s all she’s been saying,” said Johnson.
DeKalb County police charged Odom with murder after doctors removed Dylan from life support.
“Meshi (Odom), you’re the only one who can tell the truth. We deserve that. Tell me what happened to my son,” said Damon.
Dylan was an organ donor. Doctors were able to find two infant matches.
“They found a donor for his heart and a donor for his liver. My son saved two lives. That’s the only thing keeping us stronger right now. He is my only child. I really believe Dylan was put here to save those two babies that he saved and ultimately, he saved us,” said Johnson.
The family said they did not have insurance for Dylan.
