ATHENS, Ga. — A woman died in Clarke County after her SUV slid on a patch of ice on Wednesday afternoon.
Athens-Clarke Police identified the victim as 33-year-old Kendra Sims.

The crash happened around 4:11 p.m. on Danielsville Road near Harve Mathis Road. Police said Sims was driving in her 2003 Chevy Trail Blazer when she came across a patch of ice on the road.
Police said that the SUV slid and left the road. It ended up hitting a tree. Sims died at the scene.

A winter storm that moved through Georgia on Tuesday caused hazardous to dangerous travel across the state.
Georgia State Patrol and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division said they had handled at least 1,960 calls for service on Wednesday, including 448 motorist assists and were investigating 268 crashes.
Channel 2 Action News has reached out to Georgia State Patrol and Georgia Emergency Management Agency and asked if there were any other weather-related deaths reported to them.
