GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — If you plan to send your holiday gifts and cards by mail, now is the best time to do it. December is the busiest month for the United States Postal Service.
Channel 2 Action News got a tour of metro Atlanta’s largest processing and distribution center in Duluth to see what it takes to make sure your packages get to their destination before Christmas.

“We process at least about a 100,000 plus packages and 10 million in letters,” USPS worker Paula Williams said.
That’s just during the holidays. The USPS has 11,000 workers processing your mail. They added extra help and lots of new equipment. Williams said they have implemented the use of over 200 new package machines.

For customers, the clock is ticking to get those gifts in the mail. The deadline to ship domestic and first class mail is Dec. 17, priority mail Dec. 19 and priority express mail Dec. 23.
“I usually never have any major issues. I’m confident everything is going to be there by Christmas,” customer Andy Baker said.
The postal service allows you to track your delivery.
“All of our packages come with delivery confirmation. It’ll give you an idea of where your package is and in it’s journey,” Williams said.
