DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are looking for a gunman who killed a father of five as he filled up his gas tank.
The man's wife told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri the gunman not only killed her husband, but killed her best friend.
Carol Ross said she can't imagine anyone who would want to hurt her husband Andrew.
DeKalb police said someone shot Andrew Ross around 1 a.m. Tuesday while stopped at the Shell gas station on Bouldercrest Road.
"They took my husband. They took a father. I'm trying not to break down. They took my other half, my best friend," Carol Ross told Viteri.
Ross said she wants whoever shot and killed her 30-year-old husband Andrew to know exactly what they took from this world.
"He's not here no more and now I got to raise five kids by myself because they took my husband from me," Carol Ross said.
Andrew Ross leaves behind five children ranging in age from 9-year-old twins to the youngest who just turned 5.
"All I want to know is why, because everybody around here knew Andrew, everybody. No reason to want to hurt him he didn't have no enemies," Ross said.
Ross told Viteri that she thinks her husband could be a victim of mistaken identity because no one took anything from him.
"It's just like an innocent life taken for no reason. No reason at all," Ross said.
She says investigators came to her door around 4 a.m. Tuesday to give her the news, which has yet to sink in.
"You're thinking it's a dream but it's really a horrible nightmare knowing that your loved one's not coming back home no more."
The family is now faced with covering funeral costs for Andrew Ross. They have set up a fund to help raise money.
