Water main break leaves some Gwinnett residents without water

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga.,None — Crews worked Sunday morning to find out what caused a water main break on Beaver Ruin Road in Gwinnett County.

Crews had a portion of Beaver Ruin Road near Castor Road completely blocked off, but lanes reopened by 9 a.m.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a river of brown, muddy water flowed downhill toward a small business.  The basement of the realty business was flooded.

Crews used a locator to find the valves and finally capped the leak.

Officials capped the leak, but not before it created a huge pit in the sidewalk.

Several homes in the area were left without water from the break.

“We got one little subdivision up here that’s out – probably about 20 or 30 homes, and just a little bit on this street, so probably no more than 40 people without water,” said Jeff Nelson of the Gwinnett County Water Department.

Crews hoped to have water restored by Sunday afternoon.
