ATLANTA — Georgia Tech police have released surveillance footage of the three people suspected of robbing a student at gunpoint in his dorm room.

A student woke up in his on-campus apartment early July 1 to find two men in his room stealing his laptop. He told police one of the men aimed a gun at his head before leaving.

Police said the newly-released footage shows two men, one in red shorts who crosses in front of the camera several times, and a woman in a black Chevy Suburban at a nearby BP station.

The robbery prompted Georgia Tech to team up with Atlanta police in order to step up patrol efforts around campus. Monday afternoon, police and city leaders formed a new task force to take on crime near all of the city's universities.

"Brothers on my campus are really concerned about being able to walk outside of campus. They are targets sometimes," Morehouse College Student Body President Anre Washington said.

Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell laid out the city's new plan.

"Number one: to get a clear picture of the facts and the data related to crime in and around our college campuses. Number 2: To communicate on how we might enhance student safety," Mitchell said.

The new task force plans to meet once a week for the next month to create an action plan.
