A DeKalb County woman said a strange man dropped a Molotov cocktail on her front door, filling her apartment with smoke and fire.

Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Ashli Lincoln was in Clarkston Thursday, where Monique Cole is hoping that by sharing her video -- and her story -- someone will be arrested in the arson case.

The video, which was captured by her Ring camera, shows a man in a dark hat walking up to Cole’s door holding a bottle.

Cole said she was working from home on Wednesday when she started to see the dark smoke. She opened her front door to see flames.

“Scary is an understatement,” Cole said. “(It was) traumatizing. I’m exhausted.”

Cole said that as the smoke started billowing, she used mop water to help extinguish the flames.

“I would have been trapped inside,” Cole said. “I probably would have had to jump over the balcony.”

After the flames were out, Cole checked her Ring doorbell camera and saw that a man had been captured on video moments before walking up to Cole’s unit wearing a black tank top and a black hat. He appeared to be holding a Molotov cocktail. The camera only captured the moments right before he set Cole’s door on fire.

“My first state of mind is, who the heck is that?” Cole asked. “The amount of terror and the emotion, that’s because my eyes are swollen right now because I instantly start crying. Because that is the most insane thing I’ve ever seen, especially when it’s someone you’ve never seen a day before in your life.”

Cole and her neighbors said they suspect the man targeted the wrong house. Cole did make a police report.
