Atlanta police said officers received information on Oct. 31 that Javonte Avery was at an address on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW.
When officers tried to approach Avery, he ran. After a brief foot chase and a Taser deployment, officers took him into custody.
Police said Avery was wanted in connection with 18 Atlanta police cases spanning several years. One of those cases involved a Sept. 21 robbery at a CVS on Peachtree Street NE.
According to investigators, Avery entered the CVS around 11:22 a.m., pushed an employee out of the way and went behind the register. Police said he filled a bag with bottles of perfume and cologne before leaving.
The stolen merchandise was valued at approximately $2,704, according to police.
Investigators previously described Avery as a serial shoplifting suspect who targeted multiple businesses throughout Atlanta. Police said he is a convicted felon and a repeat retail theft offender.
Police said the investigation into the CVS robbery remains active.
Anyone with information can submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477), online at StopCrimeAtl.org or by texting CSGA.
Tips may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
An arrest does not mean someone has been convicted. Avery is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
