ATLANTA — A Virginia state trooper who was recovering from spinal injuries walked out of Atlanta's Shepherd Center Saturday morning.
Officer Jamie Lawson was hurt during a high-speed chase in April. A week later, he came to the Shepherd Center for a month-long stay to repair his spine and regain movement in his left leg.
Lawson said he was amazed by the support he got from Georgia State Patrol troopers.
"I can't say enough for the brotherhood we have. And I also want to say thank you to the Atlanta Fire Department. Their guys came by, saw me, you know, and it seemed like every time they did come by, they'd have to leave early because they got a call," Lawson said.
Lawson was able to walk out of the Shepherd Center with the help of crutches, but doctors expect him to regain 100 percent movement in his injured leg.
