Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach was in Athens Thursday, where the UGA community is still in mourning.

Zarse, who was originally from Austin, Texas, was a sorority member who had just competed in and won her first amateur boxing match for charity the week before.

“It’s really sad,” student Kassidy Ursy said. “Everyone’s been talking about it and I think everyone is mourning her loss.”

Students said they were glad to hear Gresham is in custody.

“I think it’s very important that they got him and justice needs to be served,” Maddie McCaffrey said. “Especially for her family.”

Gresham is charged with homicide by vehicle, hit and run involving serious injury or death, failure to obey traffic control device, too fast for conditions and driving while unlicensed.

He is being held without bond.
