UGA will have water refill stations, misting tents for fans to combat dangerous heat

ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia football game on Saturday could be the hottest home opener on record. UGA officials are advising fans and staff to prepare for the dangerous heat.

A heat advisory is in effect for Clarke County through 8 p.m. Saturday. Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says temperatures will be in the mid 90s and the heat index will be around 106 degrees. Inside the stadium, it will feel even hotter.

How first responders are preparing to deal with calls for the dangerous heat, LIVE on Channel 2 Action News starting at 4:00 p.m.

UGA will have safety measures in place on Saturday. Those steps include misting tents, water bottle refill stations, increased medical staffing and extra medical overflow space for cooling and treatment.

UGA said fans can bring one unopened bottle of water into the stadium.

First responders, including medical staff, are stationed throughout Sanford Stadium. Fans can check UGA’s website here for emergency procedures and a map of first aid rooms inside the venue.
