Some travelers aren't too happy tonight after a truck driver damaged nearly a dozen cars in a parking lot at the airport.
It appears the driver blindly followed his GPS.
We watched as crews repaired signs and fixed other damage after the tractor-trailer hit everything in its path at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The owner of one of the damaged cars isn’t buying the truck driver's story that he didn't know he was hitting all the cars.
Police say the driver of the tractor-trailer hit nine cars in the Hartsfield-Jackson north economy parking lot.
Jamaine Sales says his car was totaled.
“If the rear is twisted and mangled and the front end had damage on it, I would say yes, it’s totaled,” Sales said.
He also had video he shot of other damaged cars
“You can't say that driver didn't know he hit these cars,” Sales said.
Atlanta police told Channel 2’s Tom Jones the truck driver told them he thought he was hitting barricades and not cars early Monday morning.
“That could be true if there was a scuff, but my vehicle, basically something went over it and moved it,” Sales said.
Jones was in the parking lot as crews worked to repair signs and damage to other structures.
Officers did not cite the driver because they said the parking lot is private property.
That didn't sit well with Sales.
“There's where I’m having a problem. If the guy would have got a ticket, if the guy was cited,” Sales said.
Actually, the airport told Jones the city of Atlanta owns the parking lot and a contractor operates it.
The contractor says the truck driver said he was trying to get to another facility, but his GPS took him to the parking lot.
Sales says it’s a good thing no one was hurt.
“If someone was in that car, I would say they would be very badly hurt,” Sales said.
