SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A tanker carrying raw sewage overturned on the ramp from Georgia 400 southbound to Interstate 285 eastbound Friday morning.

The ramp was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. It reopened at about 5 p.m.

Several lanes of I-285 were also closed as crews cleaned up the mess.

Officers say the truck spilled sewage water and diesel fuel onto the interstate.

Sandy Springs police say the driver could not negotiate the curve and flipped because he was speeding.

The driver told Channel 2's Liz Artz he was trapped in the cab of the truck and pulled out by three good Samaritans.

He said he has been driving for Tiger Transport hauling non-potable water from landfills for two years.

The Environmental Protection Division arrived on the scene and started testing to determine if the contents were hazardous.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one was seriously injured.
