TikTok now banned from Georgia government-issued devices, cybersecurity experts discuss why

ATLANTA — Cybersecurity experts are weighing in as Georgia joins nearly a dozen other states that have now banned TikTok from government-owned devices.

This comes as some lawmakers continue to push to ban the site altogether in the U.S.

Experts tell Channel 2 that there are risks and potential threats associated with any social media platform, but TikTok is the only one owned and operating in China.

This means the company is subject to Chinese law, which allows the government to have access to private and sensitive information.

“China has mandated that no tech company can cooperate with law enforcement,” said Cyrus Walker. “So it makes it harder for law enforcement to track cyber criminals in China.”
