COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County emergency crews responded to a serious car wreck on Windy Hill road Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a minivan pulled out of a day care in front of a Cobb County Transit bus. The bus then T-boned the car.

Witnesses said the bus driver had no chance to stop before hitting the van.

“It just happened so fast it was crazy,” a witness told Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt.

Emergency crews said three children were injured. They range in age from 2 to 6 years old.

One child was still strapped to a seat when she was ejected from the car on impact.

“When the bus hit, she flew up. She was in the van and got ejected through the window,” a witness said.

Two of the children are said to be in critical condition and have been taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

The driver of the minivan had to be extricated from the vehicle.

At least one passenger on the bus, the minivan driver and the other child were taken to Kennestone Hospital with injuries.

Rodney Watkins was a passenger on the bus, and even though he hurt his knee in the collision, he said his thoughts are with the young girl who was lying on the ground.

“It’s just a tragedy when you come out here and see a child lying on the pavement. It’s just a shocking thing,” he said.

The Cobb County Transit system sent a statement to Channel 2 Action News saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the driver, the children, their families and their caregivers involved in the accident in Smyrna this afternoon. As always, county staff will cooperate as needed with the city of Smyrna Police Department on the investigation as it progresses."

Smyrna police are working to figure out exactly what happened and what charges should be filed, but will talk to those involved once they are treated for their injuries.
