Threat for strong storms increases later this week; Tornadoes 'possible'

Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking the chance for strong storms on Thursday.

ATLANTA — Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking strong to severe storms later this week in metro Atlanta.

"Tornadoes are possible with this system," Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

A strong cold front will move through north Georgia on Thursday with widespread rain and the chance for strong to severe storms.

Severe Weather Team 2 said there will be strong wind shear and even a little bit of instability that could lead to possible severe storms.

We'll have the latest on the timing of this system, Tonight on The Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat at 11.

According to Nitz, the timing and threats are “somewhat uncertain.” The main impact will be strong wind gusts, but a brief spin up tornado within the line can’t be ruled out.
