Temps expected to be chilly into Thursday morning

ATLANTA — The Atlanta metro and north Georgia woke up Wednesday to the coldest temperatures in the past 10 months, according to Severe Weather Team 2.

The official low for Wednesday was 27 degrees, and Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brad Nitz said the wind chill did not climb much higher throughout the day.

"With the sunshine, we'll climb to highs in the mid-40s, but the wind chill won't make it out of the mid-30s today," Nitz said.

The average high for this time of year is generally in the 60s.

Nitz said winds subsided heading into the evening.

Temperatures are expected to be chilly again Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

"We'll be near or just below freezing across most of the area," Nitz said.

Thursday will start a warming trend, with highs in the 50s across the region.

"That warming trend will coincide with some rain," Nitz said.

There will be a slight chance for rain on Friday in the northwestern part of the state, but by Saturday, there is a thunderstorm risk for middle and south Georgia.

Some showers are expected to move through north Georgia. Nitz said there is also a chance for isolated showers on Sunday.

By Sunday, we could see low 70s, but more cold air is expected to move into the region early next week.
