DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Multiple cars were broken into in just one night, according to authorities in DeKalb County.

"The perpetrators are casual, as if they're shopping at a mall. They walk up, have no fear and have no fear of being caught," victim Joel Peddle told Channel 2's Justin Wilfon.

We've obtained footage of the thieves caught in the act.

When Peddle went out for his morning jog on Tuesday, he stumbled upon a few obstacles. He found things that had been inside his car lying in the yard.

“They ransacked that, going into the glove compartment," Peddle said.

“We don’t know what was missing," Peddles said. “It’s disconcerting because it’s a safe neighborhood.  We all know each other. But when we go to bed, we’re victims.”

Several videos we obtained from neighbors reveal that, while Peddle and his neighbors slept, it appears that two suspects were going from car to car taking stealing items.

A DeKalb County police crime map shows how many cars the thieves broke in Decatur’s Medlock Park neighborhood. Ten thefts were reported to police.

But we found several residents including Gus Shellman, who did not call police, but who said they were victims too.

“It was obvious when we came out to go to work in the morning that my glove compartments were open," Snellman said.

Peddle said this is the fourth time in the past year that thieves have broken into his car.

While many of the neighbors already pay private security officers to do patrols, peddle hopes they’ll now step up their nighttime patrols.

“I’d like to turn my sense of violation into some kind of problem-solving solution,' he said.
