ATLANTA — A man who bound and robbed a woman, only to have her type for help with her toes, pleaded guilty to the attack.
Dontavious Jackson, 19, was sentenced to serve 25 years in prison and five years' probation in Fulton County Superior Court on Tuesday.
Jackson broke into the victim's Grant Park home in Aug. 2010 and held a gun to the woman's head, then tied her to the bed with shoelaces. Jackson took the woman's iPod, cellphone and bank card and fled the scene in the woman's car, according to prosecutors.
The woman told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik that she hit control-alt-delete on the computer to unlock it, filled out a form on the 911.com website, using a toe to move the mouse and her other foot to type.
Then the woman went on Google chat, found her boyfriend and typed "HELP. CALL 911", she said.
Police arrived and found the front door and basement door open and the woman still tied to the bed.
Jackson was arrested two days later after he was captured on surveillance video using the victim's ATM card.
The 14-count indictment against Jackson included armed robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, burglary, theft by taking, financial transaction card theft, identity fraud and weapons charges.
The case garnered national attention with many doubting the victim's actions. She sent a release to Channel 2 Action News after the robbery stating, "I still can't believe how fascinated people are that I typed with my toes. It sounds like there are also those who think it couldn't possibly be true. I think people might be amazed at how resourceful you become after four hours of being wrist-tied in bed knowing that your attacker is out there getting further and further away."
