Teacher at metro Atlanta private Christian academy accused of grooming minor

A teacher at a metro Atlanta private Christian academy faces accusations of grooming.

According to records from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Katie Elizabeth McDevitt, who is a staff member at Loganville Christian Academy, was charged with grooming a minor.

LCA did not identify the teacher in question by name but when asked about the case and McDevitt, LCA shared a statement with Channel 2 Action News that was sent to the community.

In the statement, LCA said they were aware of the arrest and allegations but that the minor involved was not an academy student.

Acknowledging the seriousness of the accusations, the school administration said they’d remained cooperative with members of law enforcement.

“Upon being notified of the investigation by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office on or about September 24, LCA immediately placed the employee on administrative leave,” the academy said in a statement. “Since that time, school leadership has maintained appropriate communication with law enforcement authorities and continues to follow developments in the investigation closely.”

LCA said they were unaware of any allegations involving students at the academy and that protecting the safety and well-being of the children in their care was their most important responsibility.

“We recognize that news of this nature can be deeply troubling, particularly for parents who place their trust in our school each day,” the academy said. “We value that trust and remain committed to communicating with our school community responsibly and transparently, while respecting the privacy of those involved and the integrity of the ongoing investigation.”

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office did not provide further details on the case. It was unclear what the connection between McDevitt and the alleged grooming victim was.

Court records show McDevitt is expected in court in mid-November for a hearing.
