Su-paw-star K9 keeps ‘Swifties’ in line for Atlanta concerts

HABERSHAM, Ga. — A K9 is already taking a bite out of crime just shy of five months of being on the job.

It was a busy weekend for K9 Roxy and her handler, Sgt. Eugene Kemp.

One of Roxy and Sgt. Kemp’s daily duties are to help secure major public events, schools, and federal buildings.

The duo reportedly worked 13 hours on Saturday and Sunday to help keep more than 65,000 fans each day safe who attended the Taylor Swift concerts.

Swift’s three Atlanta shows were held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office said the pair worked with 10 other K9 units, who swept the stadium area and perform car searches of those entering the VIP area.

Before Roxy and Sgt. Kemp traveled to Atlanta, their training was put to work when they responded to an active shooter incident in Stephens County.

Authorities said Roxy was tasked to find the weapon involved in the incident where deputies reportedly were fired on 18 times by a person who had been reported as suspicious.

Habersham officials said two Stephens County Sheriff’s Office patrol cars were hit multiple times in the windshield and on the driver’s side. One deputy was reportedly grazed by one of the multiple rounds being fired.

The department says Roxy and her handler Sgt. Eugene Kemp spends most of their time at the Habersham County Courthouse.

Kemp has had 6-year-old Roxy since she was a year old.
