LIVE: Stockbridge mayor’s grandma says councilmember tried to get her to have him resign

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Stockbridge Mayor Jayden Williams will be in court on Thursday for a hearing regarding misspending and sexual misconduct allegations against him.

Williams and his attorney, Robert Kenner, have argued the city had denied the mayor due process while investigating the allegations. They are now arguing to have a councilmember removed from Saturday’s evidentiary hearing against the mayor.

This stems from allegations made by the mayor’s attorney that this particular councilwoman has biases against the mayor and wants him removed from office.

Mayor Jayden Williams’ grandmother and a few Stockbridge residents testified to receiving phone calls and text messages from Councilwoman Lakeshia Gantt last month.

William’ grandmother says Gantt attempted to influence her to get Williams to resign. She says Gantt told her that they had embarrassing allegations against the mayor and it was in his best interest to resign.

She testified that these calls and text messages were all before the completion of the investigative report.

A Stockbridge resident testified that Gantt also called and messaged him aggressively after he made social media post criticizing the Gannt and the council for going after the mayor before the investigation was completed. He said Gantt made multiple claims that they had damning evidence against the mayor and that he didn’t need to be in office.

He testified Gantts claims were made prior to their being any publication of evidence.

This hearing is part of a civil claim the mayor filed against the city, after his privileges were revoked in July. The city launched an investigation into his spending and allegations of sexual misconduct.

On Monday a Henry County Judge ordered the city to allow the mayor access back inside City Hall. Findings from the city’s investigation will be released on Saturday.
