EAST POINT, Ga. — Police say gunfire erupted outside an East Point Waffle House early Tuesday morning injuring a cook inside.
Channel 2’s Audrey Washington was at the scene where plywood was put up to replace the bullet-ridded window on Virginia Avenue.
East Point police said some sort of fight broke out around 2 a.m. near the restaurant and then shots were fired. One of the bullets went through the front window, striking the cook in the neck.
The cook survived and was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Washington spoke to a friend of the victim who was visibly upset when he heard the news.
"He's a nice guy. He would always come in here and order food, and I would talk to him,” said Jason Oliver. "Sad, real sad."
Police are still searching for the person who fired the shot.
The Waffle House manager said police asked for surveillance video from inside the restaurant.
