SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Crews are working to clean up piles of tires that were illegally dumped in a South Fulton County subdivision, and neighbors say they are fed up.
Channel 2's Audrey Washington went to the High Grove subdivision on Lower Elm Street Thursday, where she heard from concerned neighbors and sought answers.
Erika Alexander, a resident in the High Grove subdivision, could not believe this undeveloped part of her neighborhood turned into a dump site.
Alexander said one week ago, hundreds of tires suddenly appeared on Lower Elm Street. She thinks someone illegally dumped them during the overnight hours.
"When I saw the amount of tires, I was just in disbelief," Alexander said.
"We were thinking that it is a contractor who is dumping the tires," said Mandisha Thomas, another resident in the neighborhood.
Channel 2 Action News called South Fulton County officials and within a few hours, public works crews arrived to pick up the tires.
City of South Fulton Mayor Bill Edwards arranged for the tires to get picked up. He also said the city will look for the people behind the dumping.

"If we ever put our hands on these guys, we are going to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law," Edwards said.
Edwards said the real responsibility lies with the owner of the land.
"He must do something to help avoid illegal tire dumping," Edwards said.
Neighbors said they contacted the land developer last week and barriers were put up to hinder entry. The neighbors, however, want a more permanent solution.
"We have a zoning board, and they are working on identifying a hot spot for trash and dumping," Thomas said.
"It brings it down (the tire dumping), I mean it makes our neighborhood look trashy," Alexander said.
