COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — At least eight apartments were destroyed in an early morning fire in College Park.

Firefighters say the fire broke out at the Old Towne Villa Apartment around 6 a.m.

Hours after the fire was out, we still saw college park fire fighters working to put out hot spots.

In all, 16 people were displaced because of the fire.

Many of those residents told Channel 2’s Audrey Washington they have small children and they don't know what do next.

One man is credited with helping many of the residents, alerting them to the fire.

"And I knocked on her door and told her to get her kids and get out," said resident Michael Cox. "Then after that, I knocked on my next door neighbor's doors, their windows and stuff."

Crews are still investigating the cause.

The American Red Cross is assisting the impacted families.
