LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A small plane crashed in Gwinnett County Tuesday afternoon, injuring two people.
The crash happened on Amhearst Mill Drive near Lawrenceville.
The FAA told Channel 2 Action News that the Piper PA 28 plane crashed just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.
They said the pilot, in his mid-20s, was practicing takeoffs and landing when the incident happend.
Gwinnett County firefighters told Channel 2's Tony Thomas that two patients were assessed at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
The pilot told Julia Donnely he tried to avoid houses and cars.
"He lost his engine and hit that cluster of trees and kind of cartwheeled, so thats why he's facing the opposite direction," Donnelly told Thomas.
The FAA and NTSB are now investigating the crash.
Gwinnett fire says there is no damage to any structures and no fire from the plane.
