ATLANTA — Thousands are without power after some strong storms blew through the area earlier this evening. We check with Georgia Power and in DeKalb County, more than 5,000 people are in the dark.
The storm hammered parts of metro Atlanta. We received numerous reports of downed trees and power lines.
A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for the area until 5:15 a.m.
Outside of our Channel 2 Action News studio in midtown Atlanta, we heard loud thunder and parts of our 4 p.m. newscast were interrupted by lightning.
Channel 2 reporter Matt Johnson captured video of lightning after the 11 p.m. newscast in Buckhead.
Channel 2 Action News viewers have sent us videos of hail in Marietta and heavy rain in other parts of Cobb County.
Temperatures will top off at around 90 degrees today.
Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said the chance for rain and storms sticks around for the next couple of days, which means the ride home from school could be wet for some.
