COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — A 25-year man is dead after being shot during an argument over $5.
The death of Demario Wilson Tuesday night at an apartment complex off Godby Road in College Park has his mother saying enough is enough. College Park police say the shooting stemmed from an argument over $5.
Monica Wilson tells Channel 2′s Tom Jones she’s seen several of her children’s friends die over the years and it’s time for the violence to stop.
“This is very senseless. And I would have never thought in my wildest dreams it would happen to me next,” Wilson said.
Police charged 21-year-old Deja Pierre-Ames with murder in this incident. College Park Police Chief Ferman Williford says the case makes absolutely no sense.
“We have one life lost and another life now ruined and shattered,” said Williford.

Wilson says she wants to see men step up and try mentoring young adults in the wake of her son’s murder.
She consoled 16-year-old Grant Payton’s mother after he and a friend were killed in 2018. In July, her other son’s friends were killed as they arrived at an Airbnb in Atlanta. She says something has to change.
“It’s gonna take more men to be involved with the young generation,” said Wilson. “I’m not supposed to bury my kids. No one should bury their child,” she added.
Payton’s mother, Donese Gordon, told Jones it’s time to stop staying silent about these young men dying.
“We need to be marching down Old National right now,” said Gordon.
Wilson, Williford and others say that young people need better conflict resolutions skills. They need to understand the consequences of their actions and to put the guns down.
