ATLANTA — Parents have said for years that students take too many tests – now the state agrees.
The state says some teachers will now only give two district tests when they used to give six.
Education officials say the goal is to give teachers more time for instruction. They want students to focus on learning instead of passing a testing
"When you have students consistently taking tests and tests and that's all they talk about, I think it detracts and really takes away from the education experience of every child," said Matt Cardoza from the Georgia Department of Education.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods says the move will help teachers.
"We have to get back to the business of personalizing, not standardizing, education for our students, and the fewer standardized tests we have in place, the more our teachers can do what they do best - teach."
Leaders say fewer test will also allow districts to save money
