Severe thunderstorm warnings expire in metro Atlanta

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been popping up in north Georgia. The forecast is staying hot and humid, and a heat advisory is in effect for parts of the southeast metro Atlanta area.

LIVE UPDATE:

  • 6:44 p.m.: Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Cobb, Douglas, and Fulton counties until 7:15 p.m.
  • 6:27 p.m.: Severe thunderstormwWarning for Douglas and Fulton counties until 7:15 p.m.

Earlier, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Rabun County until 6:30 p.m. It was allowed to expire.

In addition, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Chattooga County until 4:15 p.m. That warning was also allowed to expire.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Eboni Deon says that a heat advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. with a heat index up to 106 degrees.

The advisory includes southeast counties in the area.

Deon also said there’s a chance of isolated storms Sunday afternoon, which will become more scattered later and through Sunday night.

There is a low risk of an isolated strong or severe storm and damaging wind gusts are the main threat.

Looking ahead, temperatures will be a little lower and storms are possible daily, all week.
