ATLANTA — Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 disappeared on March 8 and the wreckage has not been found. Now, scammers are using the tragedy as click bait.
Social media links promise things like, "Video of Malaysia MH370 Plane Found in Bermuda Triangle. Passengers alive," and, "[NEWS FLASH] Missing Plane Has Been Found!"
The links do not lead to a news site, however. People who click on the links are taken to third-party website, with a pop-up demanding they update their video player. By clicking OK, they are downloading malware, not an update.
The BBB said the scam can be found on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites.
The BBB suggests hovering over links to see its true destination. Don't click on links leading to an unfamiliar website.
