FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A 1,600-pound horse was rescued Wednesday after it became trapped in a creek on private property.

The Forsyth County Fire Department collaborated with specialized crews from neighboring Cherokee County to free the animal.

The rescue operation lasted five hours as teams from both departments worked to help the horse stand.

The owner contacted emergency services after finding the horse lying in the creek and being unable to get the animal back up.

Forsyth County officials requested support from the Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services Technical Large Animal Rescue Team to assist with the 1,600-pound animal.

Rescuers used a specialized large animal tripod to lift the horse to its feet.

Forsyth County Fire said a veterinarian was present at the scene to monitor the horse’s condition throughout the operation.

The horse was able to walk back home with its owner and the veterinarian after the lift was successful.
