According to the GBI, this all took place between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday night when Cornelia police received a 911 call about a drunk driver. Police issued a BOLO for the car and driver around 9:43 p.m.

Shortly after that, investigators say they got a call stating the car and driver were at the Cornelia Fire Department station asking for directions when firefighters realized the driver fit the description they were given.

Investigators say Cornelia police responded to the fire station where they found 38-year-old Ashly Sophia Tolbert of Dawsonville parked with an infant in the car.

The responding officer then conducted a field sobriety test on Tolbert which they say she did not pass and she was going to be arrested for DUI.

GBI Investigators say that’s when Tolbert tried to drive away from the fire station. They said that’s when a Cornelia police officer shot at the car’s tire.

As she sped away, investigators said Tolbert led police on a chase through Cornelia and crashed into a bystander’s car leaving her unable to escape.

Tolbert was taken into custody at the scene of the crash and is currently booked in the Habersham County Jail.

She’s facing charges of aggravated assault, DUI, DUI with child endangerment, hit-and-run with failure to stop and reckless driving.

The GBI said nobody was injured during the shooting or the chase.
