Police search for men wanted in gas station shooting death

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are looking for two suspects who they say killed a man as he walked with his girlfriend and her child.

Investigators gave Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes surveillance video they say shows the two suspects plotting their attack.

It was July 1 when Constignia Franklin said she saw her son DeMarco for the very last time.

"I just can't believe my baby is gone," Franklin told Fernandes. "He was like, 'I gotta get on out of here, I'll come back through later.' And he gave me a hug. He said my favorite prayer, and then he left after saying I love you."

Police say DeMarco Franklin went to meet his girlfriend and her 3-year-old son at an Exxon convenience store.

Surveillance video shows two men walk into the store a short time later. Investigators said a friend of DeMarco Franklin had gotten into a fight with the men a week prior.

"The victim totally had nothing to do with it, totally not involved," said Detective D.R. Ward with the DeKalb County Police Department.

Police told Fernandes that the two suspects immediately went outside to the back of the store when they spotted Franklin.

A short time later, police said one of the suspects went back into the store, the other one waited in the bushes.

"It was dark in the area. The suspect pretty much exited the bushes and opened fire, ambushed the victim, shooting at his girlfriend and also the younger baby," Ward said.

Franklin was fatally injured.

"Put yourself in my shoes. If this was your loved one … just do the right thing," Constignia Franklin said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.

The Franklin family told Fernandes they are also putting more money down on the reward, because they want justice more than anything.
