DEKALB COUNTY, Ga — Police in Dunwoody handcuffed themselves to exercise equipment, but it was all for a good cause.
The officers joined thousand of others across the state in the event to support the Special Olympics at the UFC Gym on Ashford Dunwoody Road Thursday..
Officials say the officers signed on to either run or walk on the treadmill for this year's “Cuffed for a Cause.”
“It’s 24 hours straight. We have officers and volunteers coming in, taking their time, half hour to an hour at a time,” Officer Tim Fecht said.
Fecht said over 25,000 Georgia athletes have participated in the 24 hour event, but it’s an event that takes place all over the country through the Law Enforcement Tourch Run. He said raffles are being provided and free classes will be offered through the UFC gym as well.
Fecht joked that the event is also a nice way to meet officers.
“We can't go anywhere. You have our attention. We're happy to answer any questions, concerns and just talk in general.”
Every $100 raised is enough to send one athlete to the Special Olympics. Police say you can’t make it to the gym Thursday, feel free to donate online.
